Rusland Spring Show
Thanks to everyone who came along to see us at the Rusland Spring Show. Clare and Penny were invited along by the Rusland Horizons crew. It was a cracking day, if a bit chilly towards the end. Lovely to meet so many interesting people. Thanks especially to the ladies who kept us topped up with tea.
Clare and I were really impressed by the exhibits. Thanks too to Lily Rowe-Horseman for the info on woodland skills. We persuaded her to come along to the first day of survey too.
In the afternoon there was a short guided trip to Stony Hazel Wood where Penny gave a brief introduction to woodland survey . This was followed by a visit to the finery forge, led by John Hodgson, the Lake District National Park Archaeologist. John explained how the forge functioned and the group discussed some of the unanswered questions that remain regarding the original form and duration of use of the structure.
